Another week, another of the all-time greatest songwriters gone. Last week we paid tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker, and this week we say a fond farewell to Billy Joe Shaver, one of the most revered and covered songwriters of them all. Billy Joe lived through just about every danger and tragedy there is, so I was starting to think that he was immortal, but 2020 has a nasty way of proving everyone’s mortality. Billy Joe leaves behind a catalogue full of incredible songs that will be sung forever, and the first hour of the show is full of only some of the best. In hour two, we’ve got some more new music, requests, and other stuff. Keep your loved ones and songwriting icons in your thoughts and prayers folks. Let’s keep each other safe so I don’t have to do any more tributes this year.
