We’ve got lots of new music and lots of tasty cover versions today (and some that fall into both categories). The new Shane Nicholson album had me climbing through the Nicholson/Chambers family tree which sent us off in various directions. We also took a trip to Austin, TX to visit the KGSR Broadcasts archive, and paid tribute to John Prine, who returns to town in May, and Willie P Bennett, who left us four years ago this past week.

Steel Belted Radio – Feb. 16, 2012

Continuing on with T-Bar’s LONG absence, we’re joined by a very special co-host tonight, as our old pal Ron from Lockport makes the trip down south to keep Mudge company and lighten things up. He even finally got to hear a song he’s been requesting for many years.

Today we’re joined by a couple of very special guests, as Christina Martin and Dale Murray drop in to chat, play some songs, and even program the second half of the show. Plus, we get to be the first to play Dale’s exceptional new album, Dream Mountain Dream. This was indeed, one come true.

Steel Belted Radio – Feb. 9, 2012

Tonight we’ve got a tip o’ the hat to our friends at CKUW in honour of their upcoming FunDrive, a last bit of encouragement to come see Christina Martin, a listen to the talented Kelly family, and a birthday tribute to one of our longest running, most devoted, most enthusiastic listeners of all, Allison Green!

February 5, 2012

It’s a wild ride today, with really new music, really old music, a seemingly random tribute to Paul Kelly, and a deliberate tribute to Bob Marley, who would have celebrated his 67th birthday tomorrow.

Steel Belted Radio – Feb. 2, 2012

It’s Arbuckle eve, as NQ Arbuckle returns to town tomorrow. We also chat with Christina Martin who returns for another house concert on Feb. 11. And we may not be the biggest Bob Dylan fans, but the new Amnesty International compilation has plenty to love, so a few songs from his Bobness to end things off.

We like to mix things up on this show, and today we did both, with a bunch of very happy news and music, and some sad & bitter songs. Perfect. The first part of the show was a celebration of new music, new discoveries, concert news, and even a birthday tribute to a fine Canadian songwriter (now politician), Andrew Cash. Later in the show, we delved into the joys of sad, bitter, and miserable breakup songs! Why not?
