Visit with Santa, support Siloam!

If you’re a regular listener, you’ve surely heard, or at least heard me mention, regular listener and all around good fella, Ron from Lockport. Every year at Christmas time, he is called into action as one of Santa’s helpers, visiting with kids of all ages in a shiny red suit. He’s like other Santa’s helpers, but he does things a little differently – he donates ALL of the money collected for his visits to charity. He does a whole bunch of visits, cheers up a bunch of kids and adults, and then makes a generous donation to a worthy cause. That, friends, is what you call a win-win situation.

If you’re looking to visit with Santa this year, give Ron a call. He’s Tell the Band to Go Home approved, through and through.

All the cool kids are releasing new albums on vinyl these days, and the coolest of the cool put out limited edition coloured vinyl versions, so that nerds like me can bring a bunch of them down to play on the radio, like I did today. We also listened to a few tracks featuring producer/player Sam Kassirer, who heads to Winnipeg this week to make a new record. We heard some folky songs, some rockin’ tunes, some dedications, and some songs inspired by the Neighbor’s Dog.

The 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards take place tonight, and the slate of nominees is especially strong, and especially stacked with Winnipeg artists, so what else are we to do but play a whole bunch of the nominees? We’ve also got a heaping helping of great new music, and a couple of show previews featuring Oh Susanna and Elliott BROOD.

Steel Belted Radio – Oct. 20, 2011

One of our favourite bands, Sunparlour Players, released a new record this week, and it’s a gem. That led us off into previewing some other great roots rockin’ bands who return to town soon. We’ve got a few classics and a birthday song to end off the show.

Dale Murray is one talented dude, and the first part of the show demonstrates that. He produced the wonderful new record by Steven Bowers, as well as the recent works of our good friend Christina Martin, and he used to play in Cuff the Duke, who return to Winnipeg this week. We heard a few requests/dedications, before dusting off a big ol’ pile of vinyl records for a great set of golden oldies.
