March 25, 2007 – John Wort Hannam

Today we were treated to an in-studio visit by a great singer/songwriter by the name of John Wort Hannam. He came in 3 years ago and blew us away immediately, and this year was no different. With a pile of new songs and a great new album about to be released, this was indeed a pleasure.

And, some great new music, including a fantastic tribute album to one of my favourite all time bands, whom I’ll be in Toronto next weekend to see, Rheostatics.

The Four Horsemen Are Coming! The Four Horsemen Are Coming!

Today’s show was pretty much devoted to one of the most amazing non-folk fest gatherings of songwriters this city has ever seen. The so-called “Four Horsemen” tour brings together four of the greatest of all time, and four of our favourites, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, John Hiatt, and Lyle Lovett, and we couldn’t possibly be more excited and couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to play some of their best.

Oh, and some new Can-con, cuz we have to and cuz it’s good stuff.

The most anticipated news of the year has arrived: the lineup for the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and there were some pleasant surprises, so we played some songs from some of the notable names on the list. Then, some hotly anticipated upcoming shows.

Also, a special celebration of the life & music of one of the greatest singer/songwriters of them all on the eve of what would have been his birthday. The Man in Black, Johnny Cash would have been 75 on February 26, and as the host of a singer/songwriter show, it’s in my contract to honour Johnny whenever possible.

Lastly, a brief tip o’ the hat to our old pal Mike Plume who dropped me a line this week and got me thinking about how darn great he really is.
