Steel Belted Radio has been on UMFM every Thursday for over 10 years now! We kicked it off with a special visit from the great Ron Sexsmith and it’s been an adventure ever since. Could something this unpredictable last another 10 years? Only time will tell. Until then, let’s celebrate 10 great years of guests, music, and losing friends.
It’s Banjo Bowl weekend at the big goofy stadium just a punt from the station, so we celebrate with some of our favourite banjo pickin’ singer/songwriters. We’ve also got some great new releases and some exciting shows coming up, which sadly don’t feature much banjo content.
Does anybody actually read these descriptions? Seriously? Here’s what you need to know: I play great music, say stupid things, and press the wrong button a lot. Sometimes Ron calls in and says some weird things. I almost always make fun of Jared. That, my friends, is a recipe for success. So tune in. Or don’t. Whatever.
The new music has been piling up again, so a listen to some of the great new releases. We’re super excited about having Tannis Slimmon and Lewis Melville in town soon, so a small listen to their amazing work. Coming up in Winnipeg is a benefit for the great Amos Garrett, so a bit of a look at his wonderful contributions. Lastly, a late-breaking tribute to Cowboy Jack Clement; RIP.
