After a long, lonely absence, our beloved West End Cultural Centre is ready for business, and this week’s Grand Re-Opening festival is giving us plenty of reasons to celebrate on this week’s show, including Wednesday’s Tell the Band to Go Home Songwriters’ Circle. The show was largely devoted to previewing those shows, although some great new music made it in, and we paid tribute to the folks at Paste Magazine who are going through some hard times but are getting some help from some very talented musicians.
And, for some added entertainment and educational value, Carter and “Sophie” came in to co-host!

Pre-recorded live from the comfort of my living room. We get a special visit from a pint-sized cohost, great new music including the amazing new Jim Bryson live album, another attempt to prove that Band of Horses is really just folk music in disguise, and a 90th birthday tribute to the great Pete Seeger!
Steel Belted Radio – April 30, 2009
KK takes the wheel for a rare solo show, and does the unthinkable: plays 1.5 hours of great music with no ridiculous arguing. She’s trying to ruin the show, I’m sure of it. Hopefully you don’t get used to hearing just the best music out there, because the circus will be back in town soon. In the meantime, enjoy it with birthday wishes for Jim Bryson, and great tunes from the likes of The Weakerthans, Leeroy Stagger, Romi Mayes, Matt Mays, and much more!

Another week, another great upcoming show, this time featuring Melissa McClelland and Jason Plumb. Also, more new music, we revisit some live and classic music, and listen to some of the great new & old music I picked up yesterday on Independent Record Store Day, including brand new Wilco!
Guy Clark – Live in Winnipeg, April 5, 2009
When one of the greatest songwriters of all time comes to town for a rare appearance, you know I’m going to be there front and centre, and since I’ve got a bad memory and he may not ever come back, I needed to have the recorder rolling. Enjoy: http://www.tellthebandtogohome.com/GuyClark.zip
Martin Sexton – Live in Winnipeg
Were you at the Martin Sexton concert last week? Whether you were or not, you may be interested in revisiting what you saw or missed. Lucky for you, I had my recorder handy: http://www.tellthebandtogohome.com/MartinSexton.zip
