2004 was such a good year for music that I couldn’t possibly fit the best of the year into 2 hours. This week, the show was super-sized, with an extra two hours to fill, and I still couldn’t get through all of the best of the year.

Complicating matters somewhat was a blizzard that got me thinking all about snow for a while, but more importantly, Jan. 1 is the anniversary of the deaths of two of the greatest songwriters of all time, Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt, and any good singer/songwriter program MUST pay tribute to those two legends. I decided to do like the good shows do and pay my own tribute.

Plenty going on, as usual. New (to my collection, anyway) music from Alejandro Escovedo and Radney Foster had me looking back on the incredible work those gents have put out thus far.

In hour 2, we took at and a listen to a great show rolling through town on Wednesday the 19th, featuring Kate Maki, Ruth Minnikin, Dale Murray, Nathan Lawr, and Ryan Bishops. I had planned to speak with Kate Maki about her new disc, but a broken windsheild wiper blade kept her busy (I guess she’s in charge of wiper blades on the tour), so we spoke with Nathan Lawr instead.
