Today a visit from Winnipeg’s own JP Hoe. He’s far too humble and modest to admit it (right, JP? He’s telling me what to write.) but he’s well on his way to becoming a big star some day. His perfectly crafted pop songs belong on radios everywhere. Truly a world class songwriter and performer with a great attitude and an amazing voice.
The truth is, I keep inviting him on the show only so that when he becomes a big rock star, I can make money selling these live appearances on ebay!

Seems like no shortage of amazing shows going on in Winnipeg these days. Almost every night there’s something I’m dying to see. And even though I try to have interviews with some of my favourites coming to town each time, I can’t fit them all in. Would have loved to talk to Stephen Fearing or Ken Whiteley, both of whom will be in town this week. Instead, we were introduced to a couple of new favourites on the show. In town tonight opening for Serena Ryder is a Winnipeg boy named Lindy. He stopped by for a few live songs and some conversation. Almost a week ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting and interviewing a very promising young singer/songwriter named Charlie Mars, when he opened for R.E.M. at The Concert Hall. We heard that brief chat on the show today.

A couple of interviews with a couple of guys who are planning a whole string of shows in Winnipeg this upcoming week.

First up, Michael Johnston, who’s from Toronto but wisely makes Winnipeg his home now. He has a great new disc called “Curious Heart,” and he dropped by to share that with us, and discuss “Boys Play Girls,” the amazing fundraising event that he’s hosted for the past couple of years.

Michael is also responsible for bringing to Winnipeg one of my favourite new discoveries of 2004, Reid Jamieson. He’ll be in town for shows Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and as if he weren’t going to get enough of Winnipeg, he took time to chat on the phone with little old me.
