Steel Belted Free Range Radio featured songs you don’t hear on your normal radio from the likes of Mike Plume, Ron Sexsmith, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Nathan, Fred Eaglesmith, Chuck Prophet and a whole bunch more. We specialized in roots, country, and all the down and dirty stuff those wimps at other radio stations don’t play! Steel Belted Radio roots rocked uthe airwaves every Thursday, 6:30 – 8 pm central on 101.5 UMFM in Winnipeg. An extensive collection of downloadable podcast episodes exists at tellthebandtogohome.com, on iTunes, on Google Play, and Podbean.

The show officially kicked off on September 11, 2003 with a live in-studio visit by Ron Sexsmith, and things continued on in fine fashion after that, with all kinds of special guests and exciting events. The show was continually anchored by Jeff “The Mudge” Robson, and over the years, co-hosts included Gary “Scruffy” Annable, Mike “Diesel” Neufeld, Kristi “KK” Kolbauer,” and Terry “T-Bar” Wilson.

Our show is, of course, named after a great song by our patron songwriter, Mike Plume, who continues to make some of the best roots rockin’ music out there, and, as with so much of what we do on this show, he is criminally under-rated and not nearly as well known as he should be. Drop by his fine site, will ya? It makes us feel good and it’ll make your life richer. mikeplume.com/

Wander around the site and check out what we’ve got to offer. Drop us a line and let us know what you think. We hope that you enjoy the show almost as much as we did.

Jeff Robson still hosts Tell the Band to Go Home, Sundays, 2-4 pm central on 101.5 UMFM. That show is supposed to be more of a singer/songwriter show, but you’ll find a lot of similarity between the two programs. On the Tell the Band to Go Home site, you’ll also find downloadable podcast versions of this show, as well as plenty more information, photos, videos, news, and much more.
