A bit of a mixed bag on the show today. First off, a cool new CD of love
songs called Sweetheart. Then, I indulged myself with a little bit of
upbeat, fun pop music to warm things up on a miserably cold (but beautifully
sunny) Winnipeg winter afternoon.

My special guest today was Matthew Barber, a very promising up-and-comer who
was recently signed to Warner Music Canada and is heading out on a tour that
brings him to Winnipeg Jan. 27.

Last, but certainly not least, a celebration of two wonderful years of
music. There are many benefits to hosting a radio show, but the best one of
all is getting to make some really wonderful friends, which I’ve been lucky
enough to do with three very talented ladies from Winnipeg. The Wailin’
Jennys started out innocently enough two years ago when they got together
for a one-off show at a tiny music store on January 18 and 19, 2002. Just
before those concerts they made their first ever public appearance on UMFM
and I was lucky enough to be a part of that program. Last year on January
19, they came back for a wonderful 2 hours of music to celebrate their first
birthday as a group. This year, they’re very busy preparing for the release
of their forthcoming full length CD which will be released on Jericho Beach
Music soon. Unfortunately, that meant that I had to have a birthday party
for one, but I hope that they took the time to celebrate how far they’ve
come in two years.
Congratulations, my friends, and here’s to many more years of making magic
together.
